As you can see, there is a common theme above and that is
strength training. Yes, weight training is the key to success, no matter what
your goals. And let’s debunk a myth that still exists, especially among women
looking to lose weight. All too often, these individuals have the belief that
weight lifting will get them bulky. What? Bulky? This makes absolutely no sense
what so ever. There are only 2 things that will get you bulky; overeat and put
on a lot of weight and body fat and you will get plenty bulky. And the other is
to take anabolic agents.
C’mon, if your belief is that weight training will make your
bulky, let’s drop this limiting belief today. Strength training will help assist
in building muscle. Building muscle will help to burn fat. As you burn more
fat, you will become leaner and lose weight. As you lose body fat and become
leaner, your overall health & fitness will improve. And building muscle
will help to improve power and strength. Which in turn, will help to assist in
improving athletic performance. In addition, strength training will help to minimize
risk of injury. As you can see, the benefits of strength training are endless.
When we strength train, we want to be sure we are consistent
with the workouts each week, as this will greatly increase the benefits. Much
like running; we cannot become a great runner if we run sporadically. Let’s
focus on strength training at least 4 days per week. And we want to train the
upper and lower body as this is critical for success.
